The Power of Changing
Are you still wearing the same hairstyle you had in high school? Are there clothes hanging in your bedroom closet which no longer fit or flatter and yet have entrapped you into keeping them? Are you still living with Aunt Sally's old sofa even though the springs have seen better days?
It’s a fact of life that guilt, indecision and even laziness make us prisoners of our own hearts, homes and lifestyles. Deep down we may suspect it’s time for a makeover but as the saying goes about the devil you know vs. the devil you don’t, how can you be sure your efforts to effect change won’t be an epic disaster? The bad news is that there are no guarantees. The good news is that if you initiate your journey of reinvention with the right tools and the right mentor, the results could happily amaze you.
We know that the hair and clothes which made you feel fabulous decades ago probably haven’t evolved as much as your personality and your perspectives on life. The same can be said of your house and everything in it. Do the memories and mementos of past experiences still bring you joy? Or has it all become cumulative clutter which repeatedly reminds you of failed relationships, bucket lists unfulfilled and dreams supplanted by taking care of everybody but yourself?
Your home is a reflection of your soul. If your head and heart are hurting, the place you live is going to suffer collateral damage. Without realizing it, the threshold you couldn’t wait to cross at each day’s end has become a gateway to grief, gloom and total boredom. Remember that ugly, lumpy chair you and your husband bought at a yard sale when you were giddy newlyweds? Every evening you’d curl into his arms and soak up the nurturing scent of love and security. Well, the husband is long gone and off to someone new, but he left his stupid chair behind. It’s still ugly. It’s still lumpy. And good heavens but what’s that weird, stinky mix of smoke, beer and patchouli? You know you should consign it to the trash but, psychologically, a part of you dreads looking at an empty space in the living room and trying to wish the past back into existence.
Well, I’m here to tell you that those empty spaces serve up a challenge to fill them with something fresh and exciting. A stylish armchair? A leather recliner? A vintage loveseat? Hey, as long as we’re at it, why not fill that space with a piano and pursue those lessons you never had time for until now!
Okay, let’s be honest. Change—even on an incremental basis—isn’t easy. It can also be fraught with lots of scary (and even expensive) stuff … but it doesn’t have to be. Once you make the decision to explore new possibilities, you will also be opening the door to discovering new dimensions of yourself.
That’s where I come in as your guide and mentor. "I was downsizing and moving to a new home. I had used designers in the past and knew that I wanted to use a designer again. I wanted someone with expertise to help me put the house together so it made sense and not be a hodge podge of stuff thrown together. I also knew I wanted access to the resources that a designer has- how they can visualize a space and create a mood. When I met her I immediately knew that Jeanette had a personality that I could work with. She kept me involved in the process and has an excellent color sense. I liked that the design she created really ‘looked like me.’ She was very good at tapping into my personality and what I wanted for the room. I appreciated her ability to create a total picture and presenting it in a way that is easy for you to visualize. She has excellent resources and can accommodate whatever you can imagine."

"When I found Jeanette I had been looking to hire a designer for some time. I found my home to be plain and felt it needed window treatments, but didn’t know where to start or how to do it. I am a busy professional and don’t have a lot of time for shopping. Jeanette’s passion for color and the idea of my home matching my personality, capturing my essence, told me she was the person I needed. A no pressure kind of project manager, Jeanette is easy to work with. She worked on MY time schedule and is honest and dependable. She took a room that was too bright to sleep in and made it a very comfortable and usable room. It is so cozy and comfortable in my home now I feel hugged every time I come home. "
